The Toymaker is about Eyal, a Jewish toymaker who is torn away from his toy-making business, family and community and imprisoned in a Nazi labor camp. While working in the home of the camp’s Nazi commander, he meets Simon, the son of the commander. Eyal uses his toy-making craft to connect with the boy, bringing some humanity into his dark, precarious and lonely world. His motivation is to bring happiness to a child, even in the worst of circumstances.
