A criminal gang from East Boston pull off a seemingly harmless unarmed robbery of a jewelry shop. Unfortunately, for them, the jeweler unexpectedly dies during the caper. The Police Commissioner who happens to be a lifelong friend of the gang leader is torn between loyalty to his lifelong friend and doing his job when he sees an important piece of evidence in the police report that could send the gang away for a long prison sentence.
