Just A Night 95 min
It’s 1985, and a professor of physics at a night class, approaching old age, meets and falls in love with one of his students. Márcia is an unstable young woman, she has been drugged and is found to be seropositive. He alternates between family routine and pursuit of the girl.
Januária, Agostinho’s wife, a retired former director of a public school, realizes her husband’s uneasiness, yet does not know the cause of this change.
Márcia allows herself moments of affection with the teacher, but with the knowledge of his foreseeable death, and despite her interest in him, she prefers to keep her distance.
He continues to harass the girl, including stealing her dog, Hulk, taking the animal to his home, and placing him in the care of Januária.
Agostinho persists determindely and methodically, with a mixture of passion and madness. He opts for the most unlikely of actions; whilst she lies unconscious Agostinho uses a syringe of Marcia’s and contaminates himself with the young woman's blood. Perhaps he believes this to be the reason for her rejection of him and would therefore remove the barrier between them.
Agostinho, embarrassed by the care his wife has given the dog, returns Hulk to Márcia. Finally, he falls ill and is hospitalized, consequently losing track of Márcia. Surprisingly, Agostinho will count on Januária’s love and compassion at this time.
