2024 THE BOSTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL April 11 - 16, 2024
Thursday, April 11, is the Opening Night for the 22st Anniversary of the Boston International Film Festival.
The Red Carpet Event begins at 4:00 pm at the Simons IMAX Theatre - 1 Central Wharf Boston MA 02110. Festival staff will be on hand to greet the participants as they walk down the red carpet. Photographers will be available to take pictures and representatives of the press will be holding interviews.
The opening night feature presentation is Mr. Blake At Your Service, a French film starring: John Malkovich, Fanny Ardant, Emilie Dequenne, Philippe Bas, Eugénie Anselin
Based on Gilles Legardinier’s bestseller ‘Complétement Cramé!’ When Mr. Blake turns up at the Domaine de Beauvillier estate, everyone – the manor itself, along with its owner and staff – are all just as badly off as he is! But unlike Mr. Blake, who has come to this familiar abode merely to collect his thoughts, the other protagonists are in the throes of tackling their respective personal problems. The arrival of this very British guest acts as a trigger, spurring them back to life, “taming” them and prompting them to start working together to restore the manor’s former beauty and revive their individual quests. The result will be a new lease of life for the Beauvillier estate and each and every one of them living on it.
Other highlights of the festival include:
The Other is a documentary exploring the complex relationship of shared humanity, culture and connection between Israelis & Palestinians—and the transformative journey that follows when they are faced with meeting ‘the other’ amidst the difficulty of the conflict & occupation—providing an extraordinary example of what we are all capable of as humans.
Rhino Man is directed by John Jurko II, Matt Lindenberg and Daniel Roberts and stars: Anton Mzimba, Ruben De Kock, Martin Mthembu, and Prince William- The Prince of Wales and President of United for Wildlife. RHINO MAN is the true story of the courageous field rangers who risk their lives every day to protect South Africa's rhinos from being poached to extinction.
Money Game is directed by Julian Lowenthal and stars: Daniel Washington, Katie Lynn Johnson, Terrance McFadden Jr., Kris Sidberry, Naheem Garcia and Chris Owen. A young widowed father of two girls, struggles to navigate a broken system, until he discovers the "Money Game" from an unorthodox professor.
Forbidden Womanhood is an Iranian film directed by Maryam Zahirimehr and stars: Shiva Sinaei and Alireza Aminataee. The sweet world of Mahi, a 12 yr girl, gets shattered by the perception that she realizes from her mother’s wrong explanation in response to Mahi’s question, “How does a woman get pregnant?”
There will be a number of celebrities in attendance on the opening night red carpet, available for photographs and interviews.
The Opening Night Gala Party immediately follows the screening, beginning at around 8:00 pm. Opening and Closing night screening and party passes are available at $65.00 for opening night and $45.00 for closing night. The price for an Individual Session Screening is $15.00 each, an All Screening Pass, which allows entry into all of the screening sessions, costs $125.00, and an All Access VIP Pass for $250.00 gives participants entry to all events at BIFF. 2023 THE BOSTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL April 13 - 18, 2023
Thursday, April 13, is the Opening Night for the 21st Anniversary of the Boston International Film Festival.
The Red Carpet Event begins at 4:00 pm at the AMC Theatres Boston Common 175 Tremont Street, Boston MA 02111. Festival staff will be on hand to greet the participants as they walk down the red carpet. Photographers will be available to take pictures and representatives of the press will be holding interviews.
The opening night feature presentation is It’s Spring, an Armenian film starring: Alexander Khachatryan, Levon Hakhverdyan, Armen Margaryan, Marjan Avetisyan, Yeva Zohrabyan, Shant Hovhannisyan, Alis Kaplanjyan and Toomaj Danesh Behzadi. Directed by Roman Musheghyan.
It’s Spring is based on a true story about the 2016 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, also known as the Four-Day War or April War. Aram Amatuni is a retired special forces spy who has devoted his entire life to serving and protecting his country, and creating a lawful government. His son, Gnel, is a successful businessman who to this day hasn’t forgiven his father for putting the needs of his country before the needs of his own family.
This thought-provoking cinematic experience will expose the reality of the impact war has on the world.
Other highlights of the festival:
Havana is a South Korean story about Jung-min, a rookie lawyer, who becomes Yoon-ah’s public attorney, as she is accused of murdering her husband. Against a nasty prosecutor, a mysterious judge, and all the suspicions surrounding the defendant, Jung-min seeks to unravel the truth behind the conspiracies of the case, with a shocking new disclosure at the last trial.
Bleecker is directed by Edith Hagigi and stars: Bob Ari, Alicia Crowder, Tovah Feldshuh, Anita Gillette, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor and Callie Thorne. Bleecker tells the intertwining stories of a motley of characters in NYC's Village. The straight face in the pack is Maya, who has come to The Big Apple to find her place in the world.
Gift Of Fear is directed by Kathy Dore and Jack Kohler from the United States Indigenous community. Mili watched in horror as her mother was murdered 11 years ago, another Missing and Murdered Indigenous statistic. Now 17, Mili’s former crew kidnaps her girlfriend after she chooses her MMA team over the gang. Tribal cops and an agent from the Federal Missing and Murdered Unit are on the case, but Mili waited for the authorities once... she won’t wait again.
Shelter In Solitude is directed by Vibeke Muasya and stars: Siobhan Fallon Hogan, Robert Patrick, Peter Macon, Dan Castellaneta, Michael Obelholzer, Peter Hogan, and Patricia Scanlon. Shelter In Solitude is a striking American, faith-filled, country western, prison, love story told during the Covid pandemic. It is the story of a wannabe country singer and her unconventional relationship with a death row inmate. The film is a social commentary on the inhumane conditions of the American prison system. If one determined, uneducated woman can bring humanity to the system, why can’t the US government?
There will be a number of celebrities in attendance on the opening night red carpet, available for photographs and interviews.
The Opening Night Gala Party immediately follows the screening, beginning at around 8:00 pm. Opening and Closing night screening and party passes are available at $65.00 for opening night and $45.00 for closing night. THE BOSTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL April 14 - 20, 2022
Thursday, April 14, is the Opening Night for the 20th Anniversary of the Boston International Film Festival.
The Red Carpet Event begins at 4:00 pm at the W- Hotel located at 100 Stuart Street, Boston MA 02216. The festival staff will be on hand to greet the participants as they walk down the red carpet. Photographers will be available to take pictures, and representatives of the press will be holding interviews.
Our opening night feature presentation is The Walk, starring Justin Chatwin, Jeremy Piven, Malcolm McDowell and Terrence Howard, directed by Daniel Adams a fact-based biopic centered upon Boston’s ‘Busing Crisis’ of 1974. An Irish Boston cop is assigned to protect Black students attending all-White South Boston High School. Surrounded by turmoil on all sides, he somewhat reluctantly discovers much about the student’s culture (as well as realizing the fallacy of his own beliefs). This thought-provoking cinematic experience will bring the viewer back to earliest days of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Other highlights of the festival include;
"The Way To Happiness" from Luxembourg is a brilliant story of resilience, and redemption that is clearly ripped from today’s headlines. A man whose childhood was decimated by war finds himself forced to come to terms with his painful history; only to learn that the past is truly with us forever. This love story for the ages will warm viewers hearts.
"Imagining The Indian" is a documentary based in the European settlers treatment of indigenous Americans (and how stereotypes are still pervasive more than 600 years after Christopher Columbus first arrived in North America). A brilliant film, one that focuses upon how the Native American population is still being culturally subjugated to this day.
"Jai Bhim" from India is an Indian-Tamil language film based upon true events. This legal drama focuses upon social prejudices in 1990’s India, and how the concept of ‘Justice for All’ is something that must be constantly fought for. This brilliant (and timeless) tale illustrates how love truly can conquer all.
"Mixtape" from Puerto Rico is set in the 90s, and paying homage to the 80s. In 1999, and on the verge of the oncoming new millennium, an adolescent who was orphaned by a tragic automobile accident discovers a ‘mixtape’ made by her parents. Although she comes to learn much about the parents she never really knew, she learns more about herself. A wonderful, heartwarming film about love, devotion, and music.
"The Wake-Up Call" is a documentary that featured Dave Evans, who was a renowned prosthetics, humanitarian and peace activist. A double amputee himself, he dedicated his post- military career to transforming lives shattered by these seemingly never-ending, interchangeable wars. From Syrian refugees in a prosthetics clinic in Amman, Jordan, to the fallout of war in places like Iraq, Dave chose a life of service to others.
There will be a number of celebrities in attendance on the opening night red carpet, available for photographs and interviews. These will include our special guests director of the Opening Night film “THE WALK” Daniel Adams with many of the starring cast and many more.
The Opening Night Gala Party immediately follows the screening, beginning at around 8:30pm. Opening and Closing night Screening and Party passes are available for $75.00 for Opening Night and $45.00 for closing night. The price for an Individual Session Screening is $15.00 All Screening Pass, which allows entry into all of the 24 screening sessions, costs $125.00 and an All Access VIP Pass for $250.00 that give entry to all events at BIFF. A limited number of press passes are available.

BOSTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
For Immediate Release
Contact: Mark Cripps / Public Relations
info@bifilmfestival.com
In the year 2002 the Boston International Film Festival began presenting works by ‘up & coming’ filmmakers from across the globe.
In the past eighteen (18) years we have gone from presenting a few grouping’s of films in sessions to over 100 films and becoming one of the most highly recognized festivals in the world.
At a time that the staff of the festival should be furiously preparing for what promises to be our best festival to date, we are announcing that the event (previously slated for April 16th-April 21st) has been cancelled in response to the pandemic that is currently dominating our daily lives.
It would be highly impractical for the festival to set a date for the 2020 schedule of presentations at this time due to the uncertainty of this unprecedented state of affairs. Due to the rapidly evolving nature that this pandemic (COVID-19) has caused, we do not currently have an estimate of when that will be.
In the meantime we are working upon regrouping, meeting with new venues, and further determining how best to go forward with future festivals (including the potential of exploring the use of advancements in entertainment technology).
While it is with mixed emotions that we are being proactive in attempting to safeguard the health and welfare of our patrons, we look forward to seeing you as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding.
