STONEHAM - Michaela O’Brien’s original documentary "Far From C3" is being screened at the Boston International Film Festival on Sunday, April 13. The picture is among 80 selected films from 30 countries around the world to be shown this upcoming week, according to the festival’s website.
The seven-minute short film centers around Paw Wah, a Karen woman who was forced from her village by Burmese soldiers and wound up in a refugee camp in Thailand. The film follows Paw Wah in her relocation to Worcester, highlighting the isolation she felt in transitioning to the United States.
This is O’Brien’s first film. It was a completely independent project, aside from a bit of help she received from her friend Melissa Langer with editing.
"I just am happy that the film is getting exposure, and I’m excited to be a part of a film festival with a lot of other well-respected filmmakers," O’Brien said. "I’m glad that Paw Wah’s story is being featured and that it has a life outside of just the people who I’ve showed it to."
